How the climate risk score works

One number, 0 to 10, for the financial climate risk at any address — weighted against real insurance claims and built on authoritative data.

Features

What goes into the score.

A single score, 0 to 10

One number for the financial climate risk at an address — clear and comparable, not a vague label.

Weighted by real insurance claims

The score isn’t just theoretical exposure. It’s weighted against historical insurance claims, so a high score means hazards that have actually caused costly damage.

Three clear risk bands

0–3.3 is low, 3.4–6.6 is medium, 6.7–10 is high — so anyone can read the result at a glance.

Built on authoritative data

Calculated from public sources — NVE, DSB, Kartverket, MET Norway, and Copernicus — for a precise, address-level result.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Telescope risk score?

A single number from 0 to 10 that reflects the financial risk tied to the natural hazards at a specific address. It’s weighted against historical insurance claims, so a high score means hazards that have actually caused costly damage.

What do the risk bands mean?

0–3.3 is low risk, 3.4–6.6 is medium risk, and 6.7–10 is high risk.

How is the score calculated?

Each property is first screened against a full set of climate hazards; those that aren’t geographically relevant are filtered out. For the hazards that remain, we determine an exposure level from Not exposed to Very high. The score is a composite of those exposure levels, weighted by historical insurance claim data.

Where does the data come from?

Authoritative public sources, including NVE, DSB, Kartverket, MET Norway, and Copernicus.

Does the score account for building-specific factors?

The score covers exposure — where the risk is and how significant it is. Building-specific vulnerability, like drainage or flood barriers, is assessed separately in the Assessment module.
